Reflexology
The healing art of Reflexology dates back to ancient Egypt, India and China. It was discovered by Dr William Fitzgerald who brought it to the attention of the Western world. In the 1930’s, Eunis Ingham further developed the ancient techniques.
Reflexology is normally associated with the feet, however it can also be used with the same effect on the hands. There are reflexes on both feet and hands, which correspond to the whole body, as though a map has been transposed over them. Incorporating Precision Reflexology techniques by linking specific reflexes, this enables the practitioner to connect to a persons energy system.
These reflexes are linked directly to the organs and systems of the body. Reflexology is a Complementary Therapy that can be received on both the feet or the hands, treating the whole person, mind body and spirit, not just for the relief of any presenting issues.
Over the course of two years, I've been having regular therapies with Amanda. The Reflexology significantly help me manage my chronic pain and fatigue in a way medication can't. After a treatment I'm very relaxed and in a better frame of mind to continue with what ever challenges I may face in the upcoming weeks ahead.I have also had Reiki from Amanda who truly has a gift of healing and I look forward to every treatment I book.
Benefits of Reflexology
Reflexology is suitable for all ages and brings relief from a variety of common health issues.
Treatments may be beneficial in supporting the treatment of a myriad of health conditions and then followed up by regular, periodic treatments. This ensures that the well being and balance is maintained.
Many people use reflexology as a way of relaxing and unwinding, using it as a form of stress management. Many health practitioners, doctors and consultants promote Reflexology as a well established, respected and effective therapy. Reflexology is used in many hospitals and hospices to support cancer patients and their family members by promoting relaxation and a safe space for some time out to regain their balance. Reflexology does not treat the cancer but the person, giving them time to relax, with no thinking or worrying, calming the mind and the body.
It is recommended that you wait to be seven clear of your last chemotherapy before receiving a Reflexology session.
If you have received a recent diagnosis of cancer you may want to check out the Macmillan Cancer Support Centre, The Mustard Tree, Derriford Hospital, Plymouth for information on the free support that is on offer. Reflexology is excellent for treating and the management of stress related problems, by helping The patient to relax.
On your first visit there will be an initial consultation and a medical questionnaire will be taken recording any symptoms or discomforts you may be experiencing.
You remain clothed other than removing your footwear, soft relaxation music is played in the background enhancing your relaxation experience.
After the treatment your body will re-adjust to it’s new sense of balance, this is part of the healing process and you may experience a short period of feeling re-energised or lethargic and sometimes it has been known for the patient to become tearful. this is a positive reaction to your treatment as it brings your energy systems back into a state of balance. This healing process is not experienced by everyone. It totally depends on the needs of your body and it usually last for only a short period after the session. It is important to give feedback to the Reflexologist on how your body is reacting to your treatments as this enables the practitioner to tailor your sessions to your specific needs. The main aim of your treatment is to promote a deep sense of relaxation and balance.
