Indian Head Massage

Indian head massage is a massage therapy that is specifically used on the areas around the head, scalp, face, neck and extending to the shoulders, arms and upper back.

Indian head massage has been used in Asia for more than 5,000 years and has been adapted to incorporate Western techniques. This healing massage therapy has been passed down through generations and is now a mixture of traditional Indian and Western techniques.

Massage has always been an important feature within Indian family life and Indian head massage has evolved from traditional techniques that have been used within the family unit and still are. Indian head massage is based on the ancient system of Ayurveda the word “Ayurveda” comes from Sanskrit and means the “science of life and longevity”. The Ayurveda approach to health is the balance of body, mind and spirit, promoting long life and recommends the use of massage along with diet, herbs, meditation, cleansing yoga and exercise.

Normally in the first three months of each year I suffer with Rotation Cuff in my left shoulder which severely restricts my mobility and is very painful. This normally results in weeks of physiotherapy, over a period of three treatments one each week, the pain has now completely gone, and I have my full mobility back in my shoulder. Due to having the Indian Head massage I have not needed the physiotherapy and my recovery has been much quicker.

What happens during an Indian head massage?

An Indian head massage last for approximately 45 minutes, within an hour’s appointment.
